Charity Bike Ride – Hebburn Town Coaches and Dads

Over the weekend of the 5th, 6th & 7th of June a cycling team from Hebburn Town Juniors F.C. will be taking on a 200 mile charity bike ride from Edinburgh to Hebburn.
The team made up of Brian Stewart, Kevin Carter, Kevin Van Enk, Paul Donaghy and Jimmy Hudson are all coaches and dads from Hebburn Town Juniors F C.
With lots of discussion over a few beers in the Lord Nelson on many Sunday afternoons on which charity event to do, it was decided the Coast Castle ride was the event everyone decided on.

Over the last few months the team have been meeting up for training rides on a regular basis in preparation for the 200 mile bike ride. After getting over the initial saddle sore the lads are now fully prepared and raring to go.

The reason behind the charity bike ride is to celebrate Brian Stewart’s big 40 years of life. Brian who turns 40 in June wanted to do something different for his birthday and raise funds for a charity. All the funds raised will be presented to one of the charity’s founders on Friday 19th June as a surprise donation with any cash donations collected at Brian’s birthday party, in lieu of presents.

The charity that Brian has chosen is STAR INTERNATIONAL, an international charity which focuses on care, rehabilitation for orphaned children suffering from abuse, neglect and disability. All the funds raised will help provide equipment, care, medicine and education for the children and appropriate training for their carer’s, ensuring that facilities are maintained to an acceptable level, promoting health and well-being for the children.

To help support the weekend, Hebburn Town Juniors F.C.'s main sponsor TYNE and WEAR LGV (Colin & Terry - Smith) have kindly offered free of charge, a support vehicle and driver to transport all riders and bikes to the start in Edinburgh City centre and a vehicle, driver to assist and support the riders on their epic ride South.

If anyone who would kindly like to sponsor the lads on their ride please contact any of the lads involved or in fact any HTJ coaches who can give you details for the 5 cyclists.
